You just can't simply slap a Bourbon label on a Whiskey bottle and call it Bourbon. There are strict requirements, which include:
While not required to be produced in Kentucky, about 98 percent of today's Bourbon sold around the world is distilled right here in Kentucky.
1) 51% Corn
2) distilled at no higher than 160 proof
3a) Goes in the container at no higher than 125 proof
3b) The container has to be unused charred oak
4) It is bottled at least at 80 proof
5) It is a product of the United States.
6) The only thing that can be added is pure water to adjust the proof into the barrel or into the bottle.
